The predecessor of West China School of Pharmacy is School of Pharmacy, West China Union Unversity, which is established by five church associations including United States, Great Britain, and Canada in 1910. The school of pharmacy is established in 1918.

The school is the first batch pharmacy schools founded in China conferring the degree of B.S. Pharm.

After the civil war ended, the school altered her name to School of Pharmcy, Sichuan Medical College in 1953.

In 1985, the school changed her name to School of Pharmacy, West China University of Medical Sciences.

In 1989, the school established the first clinical pharmacy degree in China.

In 2000, the school changed her name the last time to West China School of Pharmacy, Sichuan University. Til today that name has always been in use.
